Life is. . .

Mother Teresa

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.

The Reason for the Season

Christmas lights that twinkle

In the cold December night,

Trees dressed up with tinsel

Are such a pretty sight.

Presents wrapped and labeled

And placed beneath the tree,

Children watch and wonder

Just what their gifts might be.

People running here and there

With little time to spare,

Many have forgotten

Why Christmastime is there!

So many things to purchase,

So many things to do. . .

Have you stopped to think

What Christmas means to you?

For some it just means money,

And how much they can make,

To others, just a ritual,

A game of give and take.

Christmas is so much more than this

A time for us to share,

When God’s Son was sent down to us

Our sins for Him to bear.

The love that He has shown to all,

The gift that He has given,

Should shine each year above all else,

At every Christmas season!

PRAY AND FAST FOR VOCATIONS

Eternal God,

Open wide the doors of our hearts

to Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Help us, and all who desire to serve You,

to know how to respond to Your call.

Through the gift of baptism You invite us

to witness to the grace of Your love.

Bless all women and men

whom You call to serve the Church

as priests, deacons, sisters, or brothers.

May they be bold and joyful witnesses

to the presence of Your Incarnate Son,

and to the breath of the Spirit in our world.  Amen.

If you attend weekend Mass at one of the Parishes in Carteret: St. Joseph, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Family, or Sacred Heart, you may put your donation envelope in their collection basket during Mass.  The Pastors have agreed to forward these donations to the correct Parish.  Thank you!

Text Box: FAMILY DAY - a Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children
All families are encouraged to celebrate Family Day on Monday, September 24, by eating dinner together. More importantly, talk with your children. During dinner, turn off the TV and let the answering machine record your calls. Involve the entire family in planning and cooking the meal, if possible. Start a family tradition of beginning family meals with a prayer or by lighting candles. Remember to have dessert or consider playing a board game after dinner to keep the conversation going.
Family Day embodies the values and teachings of the Church. Starting a Sunday ritual of attending Mass and sharing a meal as a family is a meaningful tradition that will increase parental engagement and communication with your children. Plus, teens who attend religious services once a week are at a substantially lower risk for substance abuse.

Seven Family Dining Do’s
( Use Sunday as the day to pick several nights during the upcoming week when the entire family can eat together. Make your best attempt to stick to the schedule.
( Encourage your children to create menu ideas and participate in meal preparation.
( Turn off the TV and let your answering machine take care of your incoming calls.
( Talk about what happened in everyone’s day: school, work, extracurricular activities, or current events.
( Establish a routine to start and end each meal. Say grace, light candles or tell a story. Eat dessert or play a board game after dinner to continue the conversation.
( Keep conversations positive and make sure everyone gets a chance to speak.
( Start a pattern of family dinners when the children are young.
